Nestled directly within the ancient adobe walls of the historic Kasbah of Taourirt, Dar Kamar is a masterfully restored 17th-century courthouse. This architectural gem seamlessly blends profound historical heritage with modern boutique comfort, utilizing traditional materials like pisé (rammed earth), tadelakt, and carved cedarwood. Stepping inside feels like a journey back in time, offering an intimate look at the sophisticated desert lifestyle of generations past.

The riad boasts a magnificent rooftop terrace that overlooks the labyrinthine alleys of the ancient kasbah and the surrounding arid plateaus. It is an ideal setting for conscious travelers who want to immerse themselves in the local history, enjoy refined Moroccan gastronomy, and experience authentic hospitality in a living cultural monument.

A true gem! We planned to stay in Ouarzazate just as a strategic stop from merzouga to marrakech, and honestly when we arrived we were not really impressed with the city. But fortunately we were so lucky to meet Said and Mohammed in this riad that made us an inspiring tour of the kasbah and the old village of Ouarzazate!! They are full of stories to tell, and speak so many languages! We would have lost a truly worthy piece of Moroccan history and culture. The hotel is beautifully decorated, dinner and breakfast were very tasty and prepared with care, also with lots of gluten free options and gluten free bread, the rooftop terrace is breathtaking especially at sunset, highly recommend!!

Beautiful and very clean riad with a warm, open-minded atmosphere. Mohammed truly has his heart in the right place — we felt incredibly welcome and comfortable throughout our stay. Absolute recommendation! The breakfast could be a bit more creative, but everything else was just perfect.

Beautiful place!
On our way back from Sahara, we had to cut the road a bit and stay in Ouarzazate. Dar Kamar was such a great choice, which has an amazing terrace to chill, amazing staff who guides you around and serves you delicious food and drinks!

Town is pretty small so not much to do but if you are there for a day or two def check out this place and dont miss a chance to try their food too!
Excellent hotel. Great service, vegetarian food they served for dinner and breakfast was excellent. Mohammed who took care of us in the morning indulged us with great conversation about the place aspects of religion being practiced. Overall I felt that he was very friendly and helpful.

Gorgeous hotel and friendly staff. The rooftop breakfast was amazing. A little off the main road, but worth it. Highly recommend.

A Timeless Architectural Jewel in the Heart of Ouarzazate
5.0

Staying at Dar Kamar in Ouarzazate is like stepping into a beautifully preserved piece of history. This exceptional riad, housed in a traditional building, is a masterclass in combining authentic Moroccan architecture with modern, high-end comfort. Every detail, from the intricate woodwork and earthen walls to the lush, quiet courtyard, creates an atmosphere of serene elegance that is rare to find. The hospitality is impeccable, making you feel less like a guest and more like a welcome visitor to a private, historic home. If you are looking for a base that offers both luxury and a deep, soulful connection to the heritage of the Moroccan south, Dar Kamar is an unparalleled choice. Areas for improvement: Creating a small ‘Architecture & History’ handbook for guests—explaining the traditional building techniques and the history of the house—would be a wonderful addition, helping guests appreciate the craftsmanship surrounding them. Additionally, adding a few ‘Local Artisan’ corner displays, showcasing items made by craftsmen in the nearby Ouarzazate medina, would be a fantastic way to further integrate the Riad into the local cultural ecosystem and provide guests with unique, meaningful shopping options. Overall, Dar Kamar is a masterpiece of hospitality in Ouarzazate. It is a must-stay for anyone who values history, design, and a refined, authentic Moroccan experience!
